Detroit 2007 : I just want to write a quick few notes here about my recent trip to Detroit. This was my first buff trip out of the New England Area. All I wanted to get was 1 good fire photo of a vacant dwelling going throughout. Fellow fire photographers have been getting amazing images of this type of fire in Detroit and I just dreamed of getting one. Well, as you can see in my galleries we did not get that opportunity. We caught 15 fires but only capturing smoke and overhaul shots. However, the heavy fire pictures don't matter right now. We made so many friends and contacts this trip which by far outweigh the fire pictures. We did not plan to visit any firehouse, however, we were invited into many them by the brothers of the DFD. The firemen of 19 Truck, 46 Engine, 31 Truck/52 Engine, and Squad 4/31 Engine let us become part of their shift after fires and during meals. The hospitality that we received made us feel as if we were on the job with them. I also had the chance to make friends with FDNY's LT. Tim Klett {88 Engine}, FDNY's Lt. Bob Pressler {Rescue 3 Ret.}, and Lyons, IL Fire Chief Gordon Nord. We spent 3 days chasing work from one side of the 140 square mile city to the other. Box Alarms were struck on the other side of the city as we stayed on the other. NO LUCK!! Oh well, maybe we'll have better luck next time. Oh yeah....a very special thanks to the guys at TF Green Airport Fire for the special treatment.
